Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

My sweet princess turned 2! She wasn't too sure about the whole birthday thing. Out of 176 photos (yep, I'm serious) of her standing in that chair looking at the cake, this was the closest thing to a smile we got. :)

She had no idea there was STUFF in those wrapped packages. She walked around them for about 2 hours before her party.  Will was more than willing to get her started. :)

I love her serious face! She looks like she's thinking, "These people are crazy. They've been hiding toys in loud paper!"

Little did she know at this point how fun Elefun would be. :) She ended up absolutely squealing in delight when the butterflies start flying out of that thing!

After the first present, she had the idea and started ripping paper off the next one.

Yep! She got the hang of it!

And she LOVED the frosting on the cake! Which was kind of surprising to me. I thought she would think it was too sweet. Thomas still gets a little "sweeted out" sometimes. But not my girl..!!!!! She can eat butter cream roses with the best of them!!

The question I'm getting asked the most these days is, "Really, how is it going?" Well, it's going GREAT!! REALLY!! :):) She is a mama's dream come true! And a "rest of the family's" dream come true, too!

Today my kids have said:

Jack - "She's a really great toddler!"
Thomas - "She's so kissable!"
William - "She has the most adorable voice!"
Savannah - "Come on little Cinderella." and "I'm so glad I have a sister."

She's talking.. a lot.. and has used the potty several times. She has asked to go! She puts on her lipstick with me in the mornings, and pretends to put in HER contacts. She puts her sunglasses up on top of her head - like her mama -, and alerts me if the washer or dryer buzzer goes off. And she'll sit still and let me put bows in her hair.

It's pretty much not stop stinkin fun!!! :):):)

Our only real problem right now is car sickness... uuuggg... It happens so quick. Any trip more than 15 or 20 minutes and we have .... a problem. If anyone has any suggestions on that front, I'd love to hear them!

What a precious little one! :) Such a cutie!
Our oldest gets carsick and thank the Lord it has gotten better over the last 6 years. One thing that Caitlyn will do is stick her hand out the window when she feels sick. I read online that some children get car sick because their brain doesn't register that they're moving but their eyes do. The two don't agree and wahlah sickness begins. When Cait sticks her hand out the window her brain then realizes that it is in fact moving. :) Don't know if that will help all littles with car sickness but it's worth a try. :)

How adorable is SHE?! Happy 2nd birthday. We have a 14 month old Guangxi baby waiting for us in Liuzhou (in foster care). We hope to travel spring/early summer.

Doesn't take them long to get the hang of opening presents, does it?! :) So cute. Happy Happy!!!

On the carsick front, there is a chewable tab called Bonine, that we found some success with for our LadyBug. Thankfully, she's mostly outgrown it and can manage it now with some chewing gum.

The eye/brain thing is a great point. Maybe have her play I Spy to get her used to looking around?

LadyBug used to go really still which she thought would help (and at home, in bed or on the bathroom floor, that DOES help the queasies) but it made her stare which made it worse.

Good luck. And again, Happy Birthday!

Another December birthday! I love the whole first birthday experience with our adopted ones. Kai was 3 just after he came home and he reacted the same way...only would not touch the cake. Of course, now he will eat 5 pieces if we let him! :) I'm so glad you are blogging and posting photos Anne! It helps me get my little girl fix! (and makes me want to adopt again too.) ;) Happy Belated Birthday to Ellie!

How did I miss this post??? Oh my goodness... wonderful wonderful wonderful... cute cute cute...

hmmmmm...Car sickness.... car seat in the middle of the second row (so she can watch the road in front) ... a peppermint (simple as it seems... peppermint... safe one for a toddler that is...) really can calm the stomach.
They even make an all natural lollipop called "Queasy Pop" - in peppermint flavor (and other flavors) for kids to help settle their stomachs. Keep it cool in the car... hot just makes it much worse. Even... ice cold towels in an ice chest (so much work I know) on the back of her neck when she starts feeling a bit bad.
And... keep the cheap ziploc plastic containers with lids in the car for when all the prevention in the world does not work.

Can you tell... I was (and still am) a huge car sick sufferer... no fun!

Back when I was young, my mom would load the car with Saltines, gingerale or 7up and peppermints and an ice chest with cold towels and tons of baggies... whenever we had a drive longer than just a few minutes.

Good luck with that.

But back to the fun Anne --- she is so stinkin' cute!!! So glad you got a little snuggle bunny that loves lipstick and doing everything with her mommy!

Anne, so glad to hear Ellie's adjustment has gone so brilliantly! These kids just continue to amaze me day after day!

I, too, used to get car sick when I was little and the only thing that helped was to lay down in the backseat. Of course I also didn't have to use a seatbelt so I could stretch out, kinda impossible to do today :(
